The things I do when I should be writing

For most of us, making time to write will always be something of a struggle. With family, friends, and financial obligations all vying for our attention, it takes determination to put pen to paper.

This past week, I found myself with the time to write. But I did not write. Instead, I gave myself permission to make time for life. And this is what I did.

Shoveled dirt like a Duchess.

Constructed raised vegetable gardens with my husband.

Planted pine trees and pear trees.

Hung laundry on the clothesline.

Enjoyed fireworks from the front yard.

Watched movies, both equally strange but good.

But the best part? I SLEPT IN!

  1. Taking time for life is so very important.

After all, we cannot write if we haven’t lived…

Thanks Julie, you are so right and this is a great reminder! In fact, I always feel more creative after episodes of putzing and hard work. Go figure.

I agree with Julie above. You need to pay attention to life in order to write. (Fill the creative well and all that…) Glad you had a good week!

Fantastic – garden looks wonderful and I bet that laundry smelled out of this world!

Thanks Sharon! Laundry from the clothesline is the best scent EVER. Makes me feel like a kid again! I have recently discovered scented candles claiming to smell like “line-dried-clothes” …but it’s just not the same 🙂
